  • Agronomic Profile of the Corporate Sector Tea Plantations in Sri Lanka

    Launching ceremony of the “Agronomic Profile of the Corporate Sector Tea Plantations in Sri Lanka: A diagnostic Study in the Corporate Tea Sector” Report was held on the 05th April 2011 at the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Centre, Colombo.

    Additional Secretary (Development) to the Ministry of Plantation Industries and CEOs and the senior management of all RPCs, TRI management and the scientist were participated at this occasion.

  • ‘Para Extension Aide” (PEA) approach

    “Para Extension Aide” approach has been introduced in a pilot scale, for the middle level employees (supervisory staff) to train them as “Extension Assistants” on important subject areas and to use them effectively to narrow down the gap between managerial and grass root level employees.

    Two training programs on soil and fertility management were held at the Tangakelle estate on 26th and 27th April 2011.

  • Regional Technical and Extension Forum meetings

    Regional Technical and Extension Forum (RTEF) meetings are meant for bringing the feedback on tea cultivation from the field level Extension workers to the TRI researchers and to update the extension worker’s knowledge on new technologies.

    First round of the meetings for 2011, were held on the following dates:

    • Nuwaraeliya region: May 13 at the TRI Talawakelle: No. of Participants 55
    • Kalutara Region: May 20 at the TRI Matugama centre: No. of participants 15
    • Matara region: June 2 at the Deniyaya regional centre: No. of participant 22
    • Kandy region: June 3 at the Kandy regional centre: No. of participant 26
    • Galle region: June 10 at the Kottawa regional centre: No. of participant 24
    • Badulla region: June 20 at the Passara regional centre: No. of participant 25
  • National Diploma of Plantation Extension Management (NDPEM)

    The tea module of the NDPEM was held at the TRI, Talawakelle for a period of ten days during May and June. 15 participants from Tea, Rubber, Coconut and other sectors were participated in this program. The National Institute of Plantation Management was organized and coordinated this program.
