The Uva Extension Centre was the first centre to be established by the TRI in 1931 with the objective of undertaking research on the Nettle Grubs infestation prevalent there. In addition to the routine advisory services provided for a tea area of about 30,000 ha in 67 Regional Plantations Companies, private estates and tea smallholdings in the Uva province, this Centre continues to play a major role in carrying out field experiments suited to the Uva region.
